GTA 6 file size: how much space do you need?
Updated October 21, 2026
Rockstar has not announced the official file size yet. Most estimates put GTA 6 at around 150 to 200 GB, and a day-one patch could add more. To be safe, plan on clearing about 250 GB before preloads open on November 12, 2026.
What we know
- Official size
- Not announced. It should show on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings once preloads open.
- Estimates
- About 150 to 200 GB for the base game, possibly 200 to 250 GB with the day-one patch.
- Preload date
- November 12, 2026 (digital copies)
- Physical copies
- Expect a large install and a download even with a disc or code in a box.
Is the 676 GB Xbox screenshot real?
No. A screenshot showing GTA 6 at about 677 GB spread on social media, but several sites have called it fake. Neither Rockstar nor Microsoft has posted a size.
Will it fit on my console?
A PS5 or Xbox Series X has roughly 667 GB of usable space, so GTA 6 will fit, but you may need to delete a few big games first. The Xbox Series S has much less space (about 364 GB usable), so Series S owners will almost certainly need to clear room or add storage.
How to make room
- Delete games you finished. Your saves stay in the cloud or on the console, so you can reinstall later.
- Move older games to a USB drive. PS5 and Xbox can store last-gen games on cheap external drives.
- Add an internal SSD. On PS5, an M.2 NVMe SSD with a heatsink works. On Xbox, use an official Seagate or WD expansion card.
